Xona Raises $250 Million at $2.45 Billion Valuation as Pulsar Network Begins Deployment

Xona has raised $250 million in Series D equity financing at a $2.45 billion valuation as the satellite-navigation company moves from on-orbit demonstrations toward initial commercial service. The round, announced October 22, was led by Steve Jurvetson’s Future Ventures and brought Xona’s total capital raised since its 2019 founding to more than $570 million.

The financing arrived days after Xona launched six additional Pulsar satellites, beginning deployment of a commercial low Earth orbit network designed to complement existing global navigation satellite systems. Four of those spacecraft are expected to begin serving customers in 2027. The other two are Xona’s first satellites designed and manufactured entirely in-house at its Burlingame, California facility.

A New Round at the Start of Deployment

Future Ventures led the Series D, with participation from new and existing investors. Xona did not disclose the complete investor allocation, share price or other financing terms. Forbes reported that Future Ventures invested $78.5 million in the round.

The funding follows a $170 million Series C announced in March 2026. That earlier round supported constellation deployment and the expansion of satellite production at Xona’s Burlingame factory. Seven months later, the Series D gives the company additional capital to scale manufacturing, deploy more spacecraft and build the systems needed to operate Pulsar as a global service.

Xona’s latest valuation is company-confirmed, but it reflects a negotiated private financing rather than a continuously traded market price. The company has not announced plans or a timetable for an IPO.

What Xona Is Building

Xona is developing a commercial positioning, navigation and timing service called Pulsar. Instead of relying on the medium Earth orbit architecture used by GPS, Pulsar places smaller satellites in low Earth orbit. Xona says the resulting signals can be up to 100 times stronger than GPS and can support centimeter-level positioning, authentication and improved performance in environments affected by interference or weak reception.

The company is positioning Pulsar as a complement to established global navigation satellite systems, not as evidence that GPS is disappearing. Compatibility is central to the strategy: Xona says existing commercial receiver hardware can use Pulsar through software or firmware updates where the hardware permits.

Six Satellites Move Pulsar Toward Service

The October deployment includes four spacecraft based on the architecture of Pulsar-0, Xona’s first production-class satellite, and two flight articles manufactured in-house. Xona says the four service satellites will give early customers in the United States, Canada and much of Europe intermittent access before the network expands toward continuous coverage.

Pulsar-0 has completed more than 500 transmissions, according to Xona. The company reports that it demonstrated positioning accuracy better than two centimeters and tested the signal with commercial receiver equipment without physical hardware modifications. Those results are company-reported technical milestones; broad commercial performance will depend on further deployment, integration and customer validation.

Manufacturing Becomes the Central Challenge

Xona plans a full constellation of more than 250 satellites. Its Burlingame facility is intended to reach the capacity to manufacture multiple satellites per week by the end of 2027, while an expanded Montreal site will add manufacturing and mission-operations capacity.

In August 2026, Xona announced that the Federal Communications Commission had authorized broadcasts from the full constellation. The company described the approval as the final major regulatory milestone before scaled deployment. Regulatory authorization, however, does not remove the operational demands of producing, launching and maintaining hundreds of spacecraft or integrating the service into customer devices.

Why the Financing Matters to Private Market Observers

The Series D connects a large financing with a visible operating transition. Xona is no longer financing only a technical demonstration: it is funding spacecraft production, network deployment and early commercial service. The round also places a $2.45 billion value on a company operating at the intersection of commercial space, critical infrastructure, defense resilience, autonomy and industrial technology.

For private-market observers, the next evidence will come from execution rather than financing alone. Important milestones include reliable service from the first production satellites, manufacturing cadence, receiver integrations, customer adoption and progress toward continuous coverage. Capital intensity, launch dependence, regulatory coordination, competition and the technical complexity of operating a global navigation network remain material considerations.
