About Waymo
Waymo is the world's leading autonomous driving technology company and a majority-owned subsidiary of Alphabet Inc. (Google's parent). Originally launched as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo was spun out as a separate Alphabet subsidiary in 2016. It is led by co-CEOs Tekedra Mawakana and Dmitri Dolgov, and is headquartered in Mountain View, California.
In February 2026, Waymo closed a landmark $16 billion funding round — the largest in autonomous vehicle history — at a post-money valuation of $126 billion, more than doubling its $45 billion valuation from October 2024. Alphabet led the round with a $13 billion commitment, joined by Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, Dragoneer, DST Global, Fidelity, Kleiner Perkins, Silver Lake, Tiger Global, T. Rowe Price, GV, and Mubadala. Total external funding now stands at $27.1 billion.
Waymo operates Waymo One, a fully driverless commercial robotaxi service with over 500,000 paid rides per week across 10+ U.S. markets as of mid-2026, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Austin, Atlanta, and Miami. The company's technology has logged more than 127 million autonomous miles on public roads and demonstrated 82% fewer injury-causing crashes compared to human drivers. Annualized revenue reached approximately $355 million as of early 2026, growing 127% year over year. Waymo has no announced IPO date as of June 2026, though an eventual public offering is widely anticipated.
