About Kahoot!
Kahoot! is a global learning and engagement platform best known for its game-based quiz format used by educators, businesses, and individuals worldwide. Founded in 2012 in Oslo, Norway by Morten Versvik, Johan Brand, and Jamie Brooker in collaboration with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Kahoot! has grown into one of the most widely used EdTech platforms in the world, with over 11 billion participants across more than 200 countries and regions since launch.
Kahoot!'s platform is trusted by over 8 million educators spanning K-12 through higher education, and is widely used by corporations for employee training and engagement. The company's SaaS product suite includes Kahoot! for Schools, Kahoot! for Work, and Kahoot! at Home, as well as Clever, a platform that streamlines edtech access for schools and serves approximately half of all K-12 students in the United States.
In January 2024, Kahoot! was delisted from the Oslo Stock Exchange following a $1.7 billion all-cash take-private acquisition led by Goldman Sachs Asset Management, alongside General Atlantic, KIRKBI Invest A/S (LEGO Group's investment arm), and Glitrafjord. The company is now privately owned and operating under a new board chaired by Gavin Patterson, former President of Salesforce and CEO of BT Group. Kahoot!'s peak public market cap was approximately $6.16 billion in February 2021.
