About GOAT Group
GOAT Group (legal name: 1661, Inc.) is the world's largest authenticated marketplace for sneakers, apparel, and accessories, operating through its flagship platforms GOAT and Flight Club. Founded in 2015 by Eddy Lu and Daishin Sugano — who previously sold a mobile gaming company to DeNA — GOAT Group has raised over $500 million in total funding and reached a valuation of $3.7 billion following its $195 million Series F in June 2021. The company serves over 30 million members and works with more than 600,000 sellers globally.
GOAT's platform combines a peer-to-peer resale marketplace with authentication technology and a curated selection of new and vintage footwear, apparel, and accessories. Authentication is central to GOAT's value proposition: every item sold on the platform goes through a rigorous verification process before reaching the buyer. The company has expanded significantly beyond sneakers since 2019, with apparel GMV growing 500% year-over-year as of 2021. GOAT operates authentication centers and distribution facilities in the U.S., Japan, China, and Singapore, and has a partnership with Foot Locker, which invested $100 million in the company in 2019. Luxury conglomerate Groupe Artémis (Kering family) also made a strategic investment in 2021. GOAT acquired sneaker consignment shop Flight Club in 2018 and streetwear marketplace Grailed in 2021.
In December 2024, GOAT Group was ordered by a court to pay $2 million to consumers following an FTC enforcement action over violations of the Mail Order Rule, related to the company advertising shipping timelines it did not consistently fulfill. The company has since been subject to a permanent injunction requiring compliance with shipping practices. GOAT continues to operate as one of the dominant platforms in the global authenticated resale market.
